New Venue

The year 2010 has been full of surprises. One of the most recent is our venue change – all events over the festival weekend (November 11 – 14) will be held at the Dragon’s Lodge, at the end of Dragon’s Lane, off North Road (see their map here).

We have reinvented the festival to fit this beautiful oceanfront location and hope you find it as inspiring as we do.

Canada Speaks premieres

This November also marks the culmination of a two-year project called Canada Speaks: New Literary Performance Works by Twelve Canadian Artists. Festival audiences will have the opportunity to see 12 of Canada’s top literary performers in action as they premiere the brand new pieces commissioned by Poetry Gabriola for this special initiative. We can’t wait!

Knock-Knock, Who’s There?

From a project with a national profile to some of the smallest spaces on the island, we will also be celebrating the enormous potential found in tiny performances. Knock-Knock, Who’s There? Is a new, free, multi-artist, site-specific installation of teeny, tiny performances that will occur in the 11 little cabins scattered around the grounds of the Dragon’s Lodge. Quite possibly the most complex knock-knock joke ever, this installation of poets, musicians, and performance artists proves over and over that good things come in tiny little cabin-shaped packages.

The festival also features readings, workshops, school shows, discussions, a Performance Art Salon, and the Mingle! Wine Bar — complete with cameo performances — held in the Lodge foyer prior to each evening show.

We hope you enjoy the festival as much as we’ve enjoyed putting it together, and that you have a fabulous weekend!
